Microsoft-ek apailatutako Encarta entziklopediak euskararen inguruko topiko gutxiesle bat errepikatzen du: abstrakziorako gaitasunik ez duen hizkuntza dela. ZER:
"The Basque vocabulary contains no original words for abstract concepts and no words for tools or utensils brought into use in modern times. To designate such objects the Basques employ a Latin, French, or Spanish word with a Basque ending. For example, the word fork (French fourchette) becomes fourchetta in Basque."
- Agian furtxeta iparraldeko hizkeretan erabiliko dute, nik behinik behin "tenedore" esaten diot, eta ingelesek "fork", nik españoletik hartu dut, eta haiek frantses zaharretik. Zer uste dute baina?
- Zer adibide mota da hori¿?? Eta nondik atera dute kontzeptu abstraktuen zorakeria hori?
Honek gogora dakarkit Wall Street Journal-eko beste hura: "Airport, science, Renaissance, democracy, government, and independence, for example, are all newly minted words with no roots in traditional Euskera: aireportu, zientzia, errenazimentu, demokrazia, gobernu, independentzia."
Jakina, airport, science, Renaissance, democracy etab. ingeles hitz jator-jatorrak dira, betikoak; izan ere, latinak eta grekoak hartatik mailegatu zituzten...
